::Celebrating Fangio´s 100th birthday, The 2011 edition is under way

Registration for the 1000 Millas Sport of the Republic of Argentina to be held next December 1 - 4 opened last Friday, on the birthday of Balcarce's "Chueco".

The 2011 edition of the 1000 Millas Sport of the Republic of Argentina was officially launched with the opening of registration.

The choice of June 24th had nothing to do with chance; rather, it was a humble tribute. One hundred years ago, the foremost exponent of Argentine auto racing, Juan Manuel Fangio, was born.

Interestingly enough, and despite his record of five Formula 1 world titles, Balcarce's "Chueco" was never able to pay off a debt: a victory in the famous Italian Mille Miglia.

To Fangio, that speed road rally had many charms. In a newspaper article of La Nación, the five-time champion acknowledged that "being in the Mille Miglia was like running a race in Argentina, sometimes entering little towns, almost avoiding their inhabitants and homes... Now that was racing. The sum of difficulties gave the race a special appeal. I would have loved to have won the Mille Miglia".

Today, under the regularity format, the 1000 Millas Argentinas maintain the same mysticism and is the trial everyone wants to win. Curiously enough, in 22 editions only ten men were able to achieve what Fangio did not.
It is even included in FIVA's world calendar, inviting participants from all over the world. The remarkable prestige acquired causes the 1000 Millas Sport to be considered as the quintessential event of South America. Registration for classic sports cars manufactured up to 1981, with an ID card from the International Federation of Historic Vehicles, is officially open.

Thus the caravan of 150 cars will truly be an itinerant museum for the three days of this regularity and time trial rally challenge.

Based in San Carlos de Bariloche, the first leg will join back and forth the Llao Llao Hotel-El Bolsón-Esquel route; the second: Llao Llao-Brazo Huemul-Chile-Llao Llao; and the third: Llao Llao-Alicurá-Civic Center.
